Banks Lyon Choice: Omega

This week we have elected to bring you a pair of timepieces that have especially caught our eye over the past few days. The two wristwatches to be featured in this blog are both manufactured by Omega, one of the most prestigious brands in the world of Swiss watch manufacture, and both represent especially striking examples of their craft for very different reasons:

Omega Speedmaster ’57 Co-Axial Chronograph

The Speedmaster is one of Omega’s most celebrated timepieces, as it has already obtained undying admiration by taking part in all six lunar missions. This particular Omega Speedmaster ’57 Co-Axial Chronograph watch includes subtle references to its illustrious predecessor, using straight lugs and a similar bracelet design to suggest the same connections.  The dial is relatively unadorned, using only two sub-dials in contrast to the Speedmaster’s more typical three, although the brushed tachymeter bezel infuses this aesthetic with a little well-placed technicality. Despite this restraint, the PVD blue colouration appears especially eye-catching when arrayed against the stainless steel bracelet, and the red and white hues proffered by the hands and baton numerals are also judged to perfection.

In addition to the refined exterior, this Omega timepiece also houses a Co-Axial calibre 9300 movement. This was the very first Co-Axial movement to fully incorporate the capabilities of a chronograph, and it also benefits from a silicon balance spring to ensure premier performance when exposed to magnetism as well. The Co-Axial guarantees performance for four entire years, so the longevity of this Speedmaster chronometer is just as accomplished as its adventurous heritage would suggest.

A stunning variation upon a beloved timepiece, this Omega Speedmaster ’57 Co-Axial Chronograph is a glorious wristwatch that balances history, aesthetical flair and contemporary engineering with equal panache. Here at Banks Lyon, it can be yours for 36 monthly payments of £126.44 alongside a 20% deposit; with other finance options available to you should you prefer an alternative arrangement.

Ex-Display: Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Watch

Unlike the previously mentioned Speedmaster, this Seamaster Aqua Terra timepiece is a watch that has been displayed previously, although that fact certainly doesn’t dim its lustre in any way. A truly classic watch in appearance, this Seamaster is an elegant construction with a 41.5 mm stainless steel case, and is rendered all the more sophisticated by a silver dial that is augmented by fine rose coloured details. The hands, baton numerals and 3 o’clock date aperture are all fashioned from this opulent material, and the angular form of the numerals gives the timepiece an especially crisp aesthetic.

This Seamaster is also fitted with Omega’s renowned Co-Axial calibre 8500 escapement, and utilises automatic winding in both directions to maximise convenience. Both the bridges and the oscillating mass are embellished with arabesque Geneva waves, making this C.O.S.C. certified chronometer a superb tribute to Omega’s maritime heritage. The dial of the Seamaster echoes the wooden planks of a premium sailboat (using a Teak Concept pattern) to achieve this same end, and this sleek timepiece is finished with a subtle leather strap to great effect.

As mentioned, this is an ex-display Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra watch, but the only way you would identify this fact is by observing a single infinitesimal blemish on the outer bezel; situated at 10 o’clock. However, this slight imperfection only results in us being able to bring it to you at an even more affordable price of £2,595, making this a tremendous opportunity to make a sumptuous timepiece your very own for less.
