It is impossible to speak about the Omega Seamaster without mentioning the connection with the inimitable James Bond, the world’s least-secret secret agent. So no apologies will be made for indulging in a little 007 history, while exploring the Limited Edition Seamaster Watch which bears his name.
While the world will have to patiently await the delayed release of the next (as yet untitled) James Bond film, the back catalogue of famous movies is virtually essential viewing for any man who aspires to the suave, sophisticated elegance of the MI6 action man. Clothing and accessories have always been discreetly important to James Bond’s image, with the watches that he has worn becoming the ultimate in arm wear for gentlemen.
James Bond has worn many of the world’s prestige watch brands, including Seiko, Tag Heuer, Breitling and Rolex but, since the turn of the new millennium both Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig have solely sported the Omega Seamaster. The Seamaster made its first appearance in 1960 and has evolved elegantly, incorporating the best advances in design and function to offer a contemporary, yet classic watch.
While the wearing of any Omega Seamaster suggests a nod to Ian Fleming’s spy, the Limited Edition Omega Seamaster James Bond 007 directly commemorates the watch’s appearance in the latest film, Quantum of Solace, where connoisseurs were surprised to see Daniel Craig’s Bond wearing a black-faced Seamaster – a ‘radical’ departure from the previous dark blue face.
The limited edition watch has a production quantity of 10007 worldwide and features a discreet, red 007 counterweight on the second hand, a 007 engraving on the steel case back and on the bracelet clasp. The single-directional bezel is black, co-ordinating with the dark face. Inside the case is housed a COSC certified self-winding chronometer with co-axial escapement, assuring ultimate accuracy and reliability – just as Bond would expect.
