The GoodPlanet Foundation

The GoodPlanet foundation was founded in 2005 by renowned director and photographer Yann Arthus-Bertrand in a bid to educate the public and raise awareness of the fundamental need to protect our environment. Promoting a lifestyle that respects the Earth and all its inhabitants it sets out realistic and optimistic solutions and encourages each individual to act for the planet.

In May of 2011 OMEGA introduced its partnership with this organisation in a bid to enforce the work that GoodPlanet are doing on a global scale. GoodPlanet’s dedication to the promotion of sustainable development struck OMEGA as crucial work that needed shouting about and so the Swiss brand produced a watch to honour the tireless campaigning that this amazing foundation is doing.

“The goals of GoodPlanet, founded in 2005 by renowned photographer and director Yann Arthus-Bertrand, are to educate the public and raise awareness of the need to protect the environment.”

The new Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M GoodPlanet

The Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M GoodPlanet has been created to mark the brands partnership with this foundation and the work that they are doing across the world. Together they are establishing an initiative that will raise public awareness to the beauty of the oceans and the need to preserve them. As well as the watch there will be a whole host of promotional and educational materials – including books and visuals designed to stimulate our senses and draw us into their sustainable philosophy of living and the need to protect the environment around us.

"Our projects with GoodPlanet give us the chance to remind people of the beauty of the oceans and to address ways to be better stewards of these amazing natural resources."

OMEGA president Stephen Urquhart

OMEGA’s rich maritime legacy – the fundamental issue that inspired the creation of this new watch, effortlessly merges with the philosophy of the GoodPlanet foundation. To fully highlight this partnership and the positive work it will do for our environment and underwater ecosystems, OMEGA will be supporting the work by donating a proportion of the proceeds from the sale of the Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M GoodPlanet to fully funding a project to preserve the mangroves and seagrasses in Southeast Asia and educating the local population about the conservation of these important natural resources that are such a critical part of a balanced eco-system.

The new OMEGA Seamaster model features a bold blue dial, complimented perfectly by the blue bi-directional rotating bezel with an orange lacquered diving scale. With impressive water resistance of 60bar/600 meters, and helium release valve, this watch makes the perfect accompaniment for any diver.

The GMT hand rotates the dial once every 24 hours allowing the wearer to keep track of the time in two time zones – great for the keen traveller! Presented on both a stainless steel bracelet and a blue or orange rubber strap this watch is as versatile, practical and visually stunning.

There is also the added bonus that the new OMEGA Planet Ocean watch model to be presented at Basel Fair will feature a new mid-size version at 43.5mm in steel; to compliment the 42mm and 45.5mm versions. The chronograph will be available in the larger size of 45.5mm. Couple this with the OMEGA Co-Axial calibre 8605 and you have a pretty spectacular watch.

I wonder if we can also expect gold and titanium versions too... Watch this space!
