The De Ville collection from Omega has been a standard with the company for over 50 years now, and with each set of new releases by the Swiss watch maker, there is usually a De Ville as part of it.
The De Ville was originally sold as a water resistant self winding watch in 1960, and by 1967 the wide range of designs and great functionality had made them among the most popular watches that Omega had to offer, eventually becoming the company’s most popular collection.
As innovative as it was popular, the Omega De Ville was the first watch ever created with a Co-Axial design. This piece of new technology, which was developed in conjunction with British watchmaker Dr. George Daniels was a major step forward in the design of movements for luxury watches, with the escape wheel and escape pinion now mounted co-axially, this reduced friction in the movement, resulting in a more accurate and most importantly more durable movement, further reinforcing the already highly durable Omega design.
The movement of the watch has again been updated, however not with the same groundbreaking technology that was seen in the first Co-Axial design. The new movement has resulted in the Co-Axial Escapement movement being a more refined version than the original. The design of the Omega De Ville collection has remained similar throughout the 50 year existence of the watch; however it has been modernised to keep the design looking contemporary with each new update to the collection.
