Orange Crush – The New OMEGA Seamaster Diver 300M Orange

By Nina Scally

Breaking away from the signature blues and blacks of the Seamaster Diver 300M, OMEGA makes waves with its new orange-flavoured dive watch, and it’s delicious.

A fever pitch of speculation is still brewing over who will play the next James Bond. The secret agent is the epitome of cool after all - a walking aura of enigmatic charm and charisma, and a man with the classiest taste in wristwear. Indeed, the rumour mill is churning relentlessly as die-hard fans dissect every cryptic clue, anticipating who will be the next to don the iconic tuxedo. Even so, there is no uncertainty surrounding which watch he’ll sport on the wrist as he raises a shaken martini to his mouth.

Back in February, OMEGA launched a new Seamaster 300M Bronze Gold & Burgundy, paying homage to the 300M 007 Edition released back in 2020 for the “No Time To Die” film. The ultra-luxurious bronze number was the first of this year’s 2025 releases from the popular dive watch line. Marking the second release, however, is the new OMEGA Seamaster 300M Diver in Orange. It carries over many of the characteristics that have outlined the recently revamped Seamaster range, including the aluminium bezel, a no-date layout, and the mesh-style bracelet – all of which have become the defining visual details of this covetable dive watch. But these are not the only features worth mentioning. There is more to unpack here, but let’s build out the foundations of the collection first, just in case this just so happens to be your first potential Seamaster watch to hit your radar.

The Key Features of the Omega Seamaster Diver 300M

There are no prizes for guessing why the OMEGA Seamaster Diver 300M has been winning over the hearts of legions of watch enthusiasts far and wide since its release back in 1993. Its popularity stems from several factors. The dive watch marries sophistication with GADA (go anywhere, do anything) values and is most notable for its wave-effect dial offered in several colours and, of course, a workhorse movement, produced in-house by the iconic manufacturer. OMEGA’s METAS-certified chronometers provide exceptional precision and can withstand magnetic fields of up to 15,000 gauss. Some of the models feature a helium escape valve at 10 o’clock, combined with a screw-down crown to seal in a water-resistant capability of 300 meters, not to mention a sapphire exhibition caseback, providing an unhindered view of the movement within.

The new OMEGA Seamaster Diver 300M, unveiled earlier this month, is not an entirely redesigned watch, but it is piquing the interests of our team of watch enthusiasts here at Banks Lyon nonetheless, and for good reason. The new release integrates a historically significant colour into the design for the very first time – orange.

The Luminous Language of Dive Watches

Should you have a penchant for vintage dive watches or have taken a keen interest in the history of the dive watch, you’ll be more than familiar with the industry’s use of orange as a colour to enhance legibility underwater. The colour is mainly accredited to the famous dive watch specialist, Doxa, though several other brands have used orange liberally throughout their dive watch ranges.

The dawn of “Orangemania” occurred in 1967, when research began backing orange as a colour that provides optimal visibility in contrast to the darkness of the underwater universe. Though in extreme waters, red light is absorbed quickly, followed secondly by orange, the colour does prove effective in shallower, murkier waters, where most recreational and professional diving occurs. Here, orange provides a superior contrast to the blue-green backdrop of the ocean. Orange was also adopted as a colour associated with water safety, proving effective for use in all types of marine, naval and aquatic endeavours. It’s one reason why buoys are orange in colour, standing out effectively against their natural backgrounds.

Though luminosity in watches has improved drastically over the years, the use of orange in a dive watch has never waned. Not only does it still serve a functional purpose on the wrist, it gives a wristwatch a resolutely sporty feel, and the OMEGA Seamaster Diver 300M is the perfect example of a modern dive watch that continues to pay homage to this rich heritage in aquatic timekeeping.

The New Omega Seamaster 300M Diver Orange

Though OMEGA has showcased orange in other corners of its Seamaster range before, notably the Seamaster Planet Ocean, this is the first time the brand incorporates it into the Diver 300M. The bright sporty colour marries well with a retro-inspired boxed sapphire crystal glass front, giving the watch a nostalgic nod to the past. A textured matte black dial serves as a perfect backdrop for a set of white luminous hour markers and a vivid orange lollipop seconds hand to pop.

Despite the eye-catching injections of orange seen in various accents across the design, like the “Seamaster” lettering below the 12 o’clock location and the cardinal hour markers at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock, the new Seamaster Diver 300M is a somewhat subtle take on an orange diver. The shots of colour are polite, not overwhelming, and help break up the white hands and hour markers, which have been treated with a generous coating of Super-LumiNova. The lollipop second hand has been rendered in a glossy orange lacquered finish, while the rhodium-coated rectangular indexes at 12 o’clock are tastefully trimmed in the same bright colour.

The 42mm case size of the OMEGA Seamaster Diver 300M 210.30.42.20.01.018 sits comfortably on an 18cm wrist.

Size-wise, fans of the OMEGA Seamaster Diver 300M range will be pleased to learn that the watch is keeping its 42mm diameter. The new 300-meter water-resistant case crafted from stainless steel sits at a height of 13.8mm and features a rich black aluminium bezel insert with a luminous diving scale. While this may seem an unadventurous element on paper, it actually helps keep the model’s identity intact, serving to differentiate it from the full orange bezel featured in its Planet Ocean sibling.

Inside the robust case of the new Seamaster Diver 300M is the Calibre 8806 – an in-house manufactured bidirectional automatic movement that is both METAS-approved for its accuracy and equipped with a Co-Axial escapement for superior mechanical performance. Comprising 35 jewels, it beats to the rhythm of 25,200 vibrations per hour and delivers a power reserve of 55 hours. It also promises a magnetic resistance of 15,000 gauss. Geneva arabesque stripes can be admired through the sapphire crystal caseback, along with blackened screws, which bring a contemporary edge to the craftsmanship of this engine.

OMEGA equips this watch with an integrated rubber band in bright orange, complete with a folding clasp, or a more retro-inspired mesh stainless steel bracelet, which calls to mind the diver watches of the 1950s and 1960s. Both options allow the watch to wear smaller than its specs suggest.

Our Thoughts

Orange will always be one of the coolest colours to incorporate into a modern dive watch, and OMEGA seems to strike a home run with this new Seamaster Diver 300M watch. The incorporation of the back dial and bezel is classic and versatile, allowing orange to become a focal feature of the design without overpowering the watch. It’s also great to see the return of some of the Diver 300M’s most beloved features like the glass box sapphire and the aluminium bezel. Lastly, the removal of the date teleports the wearer right back to some of the industry’s earliest dive watches, while at the same time, it helps achieve a welcomed balance to the display.

This is a playful take on the conventional dive watch, and though the incorporation of the orange accents is subtle, there are still ways you can ramp up the orange twist, should you desire. The orange rubber band option brings a turbo boost of orange colour to the wrist. At the same time, the Milanese-style metal bracelet is dressier and will undoubtedly resonate with collectors who prefer something that can pair more easily with sophisticated attire come the evening. Either way, this new orange iteration could mark the beginning of a more adventurous avenue for OMEGA. Perhaps the icing on the cake would be to see a downsized version of this orange-accented Seamaster Diver 300M. Something that points to a size that is truer to the golden age of the dive watch, considering the recent trend for smaller watches. Time will tell.

Our E-commerce manager, Aziza, shares her view on the new watch;

What I love about the new Diver 300M is that it amalgamates the core beauty of the classic dive watch with real-life utility. It represents a unique fusing of two worlds; one of robustness – it’s tough enough for serious daily use, but refined enough to sit comfortably under a cuff. And two; essentially, it’s a utility watch with the wrist presence and polish of a dressier sports piece. The orange accents give the Diver 300M a dash of character, bringing to life the watch’s pop culture appeal and its legacy on the wrist of Bond. Yet, its finer details, like the replacement of the wave effect dial with the matte textured one, combined with the punch of orange colour, are refreshing and something you don’t see anywhere else in the range”.
