The name TAG Heuer has become as synonymous with innovation over the years as it has with quality and accuracy in timekeeping. Throughout the last century, the brand has laid claim to some of the most important and revolutionary advances in watches, heavily influencing both the appearance and movement of modern watches up to this day.
Founded by Edouard Heuer in 1860, TAG Heuer has patented several breakthroughs in timepiece history, from its oscillating pinion for mechanical chronographs, to the revolutionary invention of the water resistant case.
That innovative spirit is still very much alive today, as now TAG Heuer took the leap and is teaming up with sports and motor racing car manufacturer McLaren to produce a new limited edition luxury watch, with only a thousand to be produced. The new TAG Heuer MP4 12C was recently released at the TAG Heuer Mastering Speed Exhibition in Geneva, Switzerland, and has already received praise from collectors and enthusiasts everywhere.
The unusual design of the watch illustrates its innovation. It has the same colour scheme as the MP4 supercar produced by McLaren, and features a carbon dial inspired by the MP4 12C’s Carbon Fibre Monocell. The design and materials are directly inspired my McLaren’s cars: the clearly-seen movement behind the face gives it a more mechanical, automotive feel. It also features a function allowing easier use of timing speed, which is perfect for a driver.
Innovative design has proven time and time again to be a defining feature of TAG Heuer watches, and with so many new and truly unique timepieces being unveiled by the company on a regular basis it seems likely that this reputation for innovation is likely to last for many years to come.
