TAG Heuer Ambassador Maria Sharapova Faces Uncertain Future

Tennis star Maria Sharapova has announced her withdrawal from next week’s US Open due to an inflamed right shoulder. The former world number one and career Grand Slam holder first revealed the decision on her Facebook page, stating that “withdrawing from the US Open has been a really tough decision to make”.

The current world number 3 has endured a year of mixed fortunes, with victories in Indian Wells and Stuttgart, along with a runner up finish at the French Open, being offset by intermittent injury concerns and a shock second round loss at Wimbledon. Sharapova has determinedly battled adversity at other points within her illustrious career, including a previous surgery for a torn rotator cuff that forced her to miss 9 months of competition in 2008. The Russian has overcome the odds many times in the past to accomplish her goals, and this latest enforced layoff is likely to give her the time to indulge in her many off court interests, including her established partnership with the Swiss luxury watch manufacturer TAG Heuer.

Sharapova’s watch of choice is the TAG Heuer Formula 1 Ceramic Diamond. Situated on a butterfly folding strap clasp, this wristwatch represents a stunning example of craftsmanship that seamlessly blends white ceramic with polished stainless steel to create a timepiece that, just like its owner, excels in the areas of elegant style and passionate levels of performance. The sports tested steel bezel is enhanced by a surround encrusted with 60 0.35 CT diamonds, and the scratch resistant sapphire glass of the dial ensures exceptional standards of durability. With a date aperture situated at 3 o’clock, the dial also attains incomparable levels of clarity even in dim light due to luminescent hands and indexes.

The Formula 1 Ceramic Diamond is powered by an eminently reliable battery powered movement that is regulated to precision by a quartz crystal. The meticulous electric current within this movement vibrates the crystal at an unwavering speed of 32,769 per second, meaning that only a few seconds are subject to variation on a monthly basis. The excellent properties of resistance to impact and magnetism that this movement possesses means that the mechanism has a service life of a guaranteed two years. The watch also features an end of life indicator, although the intrinsic qualities of the TAG Heuer manufacturing process means that, like its tennis playing ambassador, the timepiece will continue to conform to strive towards premier standards of performance until its strength is exhausted.

Each TAG Heuer timepiece is subjected to as many as 60 extreme trials, meaning that TAG Heuer watches all display consummate levels of resistance to water, U.V aging, temperature, traction vibration and friction. TAG Heuer manufactured wristwatches are reputed to be some of the most dependable timepieces in the industry, with less than 1% of their creations ever being returned. As a brand that has committed itself to achieving a flawless equilibrium of style and substance, it is therefore unsurprising that TAG Heuer have enjoyed successful partnerships with such unswerving athletes as Maria Sharapova. However successful her off-court endorsements might be though, a dedication to tennis will always be among Sharapova’s most important priorities, and as such we wish her a speedy recovery and a swift return to action.

As an authorised stockist of TAG Heuer watches, Banks Lyon supplies an extensive range of timepieces from this leading horological brand name.
