With Baselworld 2014 now just a matter of a few hours away, we thought it was time to take one last look at some of the developments in the build up. Being the world’s largest watch fair, Baselworld is always going to represent the premium horological event every year, and there is a great deal of anticipation in the air as a result. Whilst many of the releases are still unknown, some details have been unveiled or even repeatedly teased in the past few weeks, and enough is already known to suggest that Baselworld 2014 is going to be a great success.
Previously, we featured a selection of known Baselworld snippets that focused largely upon Omega. With the Omega Speedmaster Mark II watch already confirmed, as well as additional members to the Constellation and OMEGA Planet Ocean families, it is fair to say that Omega enthusiasts have had more information to mull over than most. However, in the last week or so Omega has also begun to display previews of yet another release that they have been keeping quiet. You can see the video below, and it seems fairly certain that Omega is fully intending to re-release the famous Seamaster 300 at this year’s fair. Although the exact nature of the timepiece is obscured, such an announcement would coincide well with the reimagining of the Speedmaster Mark II – a classic watch in its own right – and an updated Seamaster 300 would undoubtedly be popular.
Less up front than Omega, TAG Heuer’s Baselworld plans are still shrouded in a degree of mystery, although a brand new timepiece from the complex world of haute horlogerie is virtually assured. Fragmented images have been displayed to the general public, and a swift glance at the picture on the right will undoubtedly pique the interest of most luxury watch aficionados. TAG Heuer is famous for high-specification timepieces, and is also far more willing to embrace new or niche technological developments than many other manufacturers, so the nature of their new release – or possibly multiple releases – could well take everyone by surprise. Their official Facebook page has been detailing an abundance of historical information about their iconic TAG Heuer Monaco watches, so it will be enlightening to see whether these interactions with the general public bear any fruit at Baselworld.
Of course, within one blog it is impossible to go into detail about all of the proposed and speculated concepts that are going to be heralded by Baselworld, but the nature of Rolex’s projects are, as always, driving a large part of the build up. Sadly, nothing concrete can yet be said about any of Rolex’s Baselworld plans, although this venerated brand has finally broken its silence in the past few days by way of a teaser video. You can view this below, and will doubtless be comforted to know that the answers to all of your questions will soon be provided. At Banks Lyon, we already stock a colossal range of Omega watches, TAG Heuer watches and Rolex watches, although this certainly does not dilute our enthusiasm over the prospect of the forthcoming timepieces. We are waiting with baited breath to see just what Baselworld 2014 will bring, and be sure to check our Baselworld 2014 releases page to keep up with all of the latest additions to our stock.
