Banks Lyon Choice: Bremont

Following on from the unveiling of our second hand limited edition Bremont Norton watch, we thought it would be appropriate to continue this celebration of Bremont by way of one of our special ‘Choice’ articles. We always keep a huge range of Bremont watches in our stock at all times, and so selecting just two of these marvellous chronometers is always difficult. However, we are confident that the pair of timepieces we have decided upon are more than worthy of closer viewing, as their supreme qualities undoubtedly speak for themselves.

Bremont ALT1-WT Worldtimer

The world of ocular horology does not merely encompass the creation of timekeeping instruments, and brands like Bremont have displayed the extraordinary capabilities of luxury watches in a variety of different spheres. With the modern tendency to travel a matter of paramount importance, the need for GMT and Worldtimer watches is very real, and the Bremont ALT1-WT Worldtimer watch is one of the finest examples of such a timepiece. Actually commissioned for use in the military C-17 Globemaster Crew, the ALT1-WT has become Bremont’s choice chronometer for civilian audiences as well, and even Bremont themselves acknowledge that this stunning watch is ‘over-engineered'.

Over-engineered it might be, but it is that extreme quality of performance that makes the ALT1-WT so remarkable. The dial is complex and finished to a bewilderingly high standard, and the internal bezel conforms to a Roto-Click style that utilises an integrated series of ball bearings. All of this is intended to better equip the user with all the knowledge that is needed when crossing international time zones. Intricate in the extreme, both UTC and ‘Zulu’ time can be easily observed by virtue of an adjustable 24 hour hand, and the materials used within the watch are no less accomplished than its functions. The stainless steel case is hardened and scratch resistant to 2000 Vickers, and the sapphire crystal is treated to a staggering nine layers of anti-reflective coating to ensure premium usability.

Like all Bremont watches, the ALT1-WT is a chronometer certified timepiece that houses a beautifully refined mechanical movement. As it relies upon the movement of the wearer themselves to retain accuracy in the mainspring, it is also highly practical, and this painstakingly honed instrument can also be viewed through the sapphire exhibition caseback as desired. Presented on a leather strap or a bracelet to suit any taste, the Bremont ALT1-WT Worldtimer retails at Banks Lyon for 36 monthly payments of £93.22 and a 20% deposit, with different options at 0% finance also available should you require additional flexibility.

Bremont Supermarine 2000

Just as the Worldtimer watch is optimised to rule the skies, so the Bremont Supermarine 2000 watch is unreservedly created to withstand the waves. Totally transformed from the previous Supermarine version, the Supermarine 2000 is fitted with an enhanced case size of 45mm, and this extra robust nature results in the timepiece being able to function in waters that are up to 2000 metres deep. Such performance is unashamedly aimed at professionally trained divers, and a brand new helium escape valve has also been called upon to this end. According to Bremont, the timepiece has actually been tested in depths that far outweigh the official specifications, so the Supermarine is even more noteworthy than you may at first realise.

However, not content with mere proficiency in an underwater environment, the Supermarine 2000 also incorporates an anti-shock mount, and also a Faraday cage to foster even more sophisticated resistances. The former innovation has been implemented due to the more vulnerable nature of mechanical movements, and involves the inclusion of a rubberised mount to assuage this potential concern. The latter device is an anti-magnetic measure that takes the form of a miniscule soft-iron cage. This tiny structure averts unwanted magnetism by channelling it around the mechanism itself, preventing any of the timekeeping expertise from being diluted; so every precaution, no matter how convoluted, has certainly been employed.

With a sleek black aesthetic and a dial of exceptional clarity, largely thanks to the unprecedented luminosity of the domed sapphire bezel, this Bremont watch might be designed for practising divers, but is just as applicable for everyday use as well. Protected by a three year warranty and boasting a 38 hour power reserve for added longevity, this stunning chronometer is in stock at Banks Lyon for 36 monthly payments of £80 alongside a 20% deposit, with more finance options also accessible if needed.

With engineering qualities par excellence, as well as heritage and aesthetical qualities in abundance, there is little wonder why Bremont is such a popular horological brand name at present, and both of the aforementioned timepieces are thoroughly worthy examples of their craft.
