The second of our Watch Comparison features this week, this particular assessment only scrutinises Breitling watches, in contrast to our multi-brand ladies’ study. This specific article came about as a consequence of a substantial amount of interest in the personal watch of our very own Manager, Bob Breden, and this has now resulted in a full comparison between three Breitling watches from the same broad family. The range in question is the very familiar Breitling Chrono
mat, and this highly regarded collection has been realised over the years in a number of different forms. Alongside Bob’s own Chronomat 41, here are two other contrasting variations that we have selected for your interest.
Breitling Chronomat 41 AB0140 Watch
The oldest of our three wristwatches, the Breitling Chronomat 41 AB0140 watch is Bob’s choice of wristwatch, and that decision is undoubtedly fully merited. This particular Chronomat boasts a sleek polished finish upon all of its surfaces and, despite this glossy aesthetic, the timepiece has proven rugged enough to withstand rigorous daily wear and tear without blemish. Superbly balanced as a dress watch too, the amount of interest this chronometer has received is entirely justified. This model of Breitling Chronomat is in stock at Banks Lyon for 36 monthly payments of £150.22 and an accompanying 20% deposit.
Breitling Chronomat 44 B01 Automatic Watch
Larger than the Chronomat 41, with a substantial diameter of 44mm, this updated Breitling Chronomat 44 B01 Automatic watch has been previously featured on Watch of the Week, and is similar, yet different, to the aforementioned model. One of the main differences possessed by this Chronomat is the matt finished bezel; a subtle addition that nonetheless complements the polished case ideally. This Chronomat 44 also looks especially refined with a grey dial, although a black variation, similar to Bob’s timepiece, and a white aesthetic are also available. Priced like the Chronomat 41, this Chronomat 44 retails at Banks Lyon for 36 monthly payments of £150.22 alongside a 20% deposit.
Another timepiece to already possess a history on Watch of the Week, this Breitling Chronomat 44 Watch is the same model as the previous Chronomat 44 BO1, but with one immediately notable difference. That variation is conveyed through the solid gold bezel and accompanying details on the hands and roman numerals. This gold decoration is also used on the two central rows of the 5 section bracelet, and similarly on the crown. A superbly bold aesthetic imbues this timepiece with frankly inimitable style, and this Breitling is brought to you by Banks Lyon for 36 monthly payments of £223.11 and a 20% deposit.
Despite subtle differences, these three timepieces all retain a strong unifying factor through the enhanced B01 movement that they utilise. Produced in-house by Breitling, this chronometer certified mechanism boasts a 5 year warranty and a staggering power reserve of 70 hours; almost double the capacity possessed by many traditional watches, and still 10 hours longer than some of its fiercest competitors; such as Co-Axial Omega watches. The information displayed on each dial is exceedingly uncomplicated to amend when necessary, and is controlled by an easy-to-grip crown for even more practicality. Â Thanks to incredibly secure screw-down valves around the crown, and the specially locked case, each timepiece is also profoundly waterproof. The Chronomat 44 models slightly exceed the capabilities of their predecessor in this department, with a resistance of 500 metres as opposed to 300 metres, yet no problems with regards to dust or water entry will be experienced by either model during routine usage. Each link on every Chronomat bracelet is fully screwed in, and is complemented by a concealed fine adjustment clasp for additional convenience, so Breitling really has paid outstanding attention to every possible detail.
With admirable distinction clearly still evident within the same family of watches, these three timepieces display that, even when high-end wristwatches conform to a broadly similar form, there is still room for a generous amount of personality. Moreover, Breitling is an undisputed master when it comes to allowing the personalisation of their watches through an assortment of hues and strap designs, so even two fundamentally identical watches need never look the same. At Banks Lyon, we stock various models of Breitling that employ the B01 movement, as well as a large collection of alternative Breitling watches.
